OceanWise attended the 17th meeting of the Meso-American and Caribbean Hydrographic Commission (MACHC) hosted by the Brazilian Department of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN) in Belem from 14th-17th December.
In addition to the annual review of hydrographic and oceanographic activities in the region, a one day workshop will explore “Marine data management as a prerequisite for regional risk assessment”. OceanWise, as Expert Advisers to the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO), spoke about “Why Data Management Really Matters” and how best practise can be achieved. John Pepper, Secretary of the IHO Marine Spatial Data Infrastructures (MSDI) Working Group, updated attendees on the work programme of the group and its impact in the development of national and regional initiatives to improve the exchange, sharing and re-use of hydrographic data.
