Stay on top of routine maintenance tasks this summer to prevent damage to sensors and ensure accurate data!
Proper maintenance of sensors and devices helps to ensure they remain working and provide accurate and reliable data throughout the summer months. Here are some tips from OceanWise to stay on top of routine maintenance tasks this summer to ensure sensors remain reliable.
Marine Growth
- As water temperatures and the amount of direct sunlight increases through the summer months so does the extent of marine growth on any structure or piece of equipment within the marine environment.
- It is important to routinely check submerged or partially submerged equipment such as pressure tide gauges, current monitoring equipment and other subsurface sensors to ensure that sensor faces aren’t obscured by marine growth which would lead to spurious data readings.
- Depending on your location and local condition you may need to carry out multiple maintenance visits to sites to remove marine growth and clean sensors to ensure they keep working accurately – we recommend checking the sensor every 4 weeks and increasing/decreasing the frequency as required based on your local conditions.
