Dr. Mike Osborne is a highly respected figure in the marine industry, with a career spanning decades in environmental science, marine data management, and GIS. A trained physical oceanographer, Mike has developed a broad skill set encompassing engineering support, marine spatial planning, and decision support systems for the maritime sector.
Mike has played a pioneering role in advancing the use of GIS in the marine environment. He has managed numerous high-profile global projects, first as Technical Director at Metoc, then as the founder and Managing Director of SeaZone, and later as the Managing Director of OceanWise from 2010 to 2021. Since stepping into the role of CFO and Chairman in 2021, he continues to guide the company’s strategic direction, ensuring strong financial management and continued growth.
A specialist in marine reference data and information systems, Mike is a Fellow of IMarEST and serves on the MEDIN Executive Team. He is also an invited expert and trainer for the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Marine SDI Working Group, which he helped establish. His contributions to the industry were recognised in 2017 when he was awarded AMSI Business Person of the Year by the Association of Marine Scientific Industries.

With over 25 years of experience in the marine industry, Caroline Levey is a founding member of OceanWise, established in 2010. Her expertise spans marine data management, GIS development, and environmental monitoring, making her a key figure in the industry.
Before co-founding OceanWise, Caroline built a diverse career, including developing GIS capabilities at the Port of London Authority (PLA), creating GIS-based software for companies like Airbus, and leading marine data product development at SeaZone—the first dedicated marine data company. She holds a Master’s degree in Geographical Information Science and has been instrumental in shaping OceanWise’s data products and GIS-based solutions for ports.
Since becoming Managing Director in 2021, Caroline has been a driving force behind OceanWise’s commitment to customer service excellence, global expansion, and continuous innovation. She is a highly respected peer and speaker within the industry, delivering training worldwide to professionals looking to enhance their GIS and data management skills. Passionate about best practices, safety, and efficiency in the marine sector, she is also an advocate for women in leadership and strives to inspire the next generation.
Outside of work, competitive sport has taken a back seat to supporting her children’s sporting ambitions—spending most weekends as a dedicated “taxi and pit crew” in muddy fields! She also actively supports her local cycling and canoe clubs.
With over 30 years of commercial experience in the marine industry, Mark Jonas is a highly skilled expert in oceanographic surveying, environmental data processing, and long-term data management. As a founding member of OceanWise and Technical Director since its creation in 2010, Mark has been instrumental in developing innovative solutions for managing and integrating marine data.
Mark’s expertise spans the entire data lifecycle—from initial collection and processing to post-analysis and long-term archiving. He has a unique ability to bridge the gap between field operations and advanced data systems, incorporating marine data into CAD, spatial databases, and GIS platforms. His deep understanding of mathematical modelling allows him to manipulate complex datasets with precision, ensuring accuracy and usability across multiple applications. And when existing systems can’t quite solve a problem? Mark puts his programming skills to work to develop custom solutions.
As OceanWise’s Technical Director, Mark plays a crucial role in shaping the company’s technological advancements, ensuring its products and services remain at the forefront of the industry.
Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time on the water, indulging his passion for boating.
Ralph Bostock is an experienced metocean scientist with 20 years of expertise in project management, marine surveying, and the application of marine data. Over his career, he has supported numerous offshore renewables, dredging, underwater mining, and coastal engineering projects across the UK and Europe, helping to advance industry best practices and data-driven decision-making.
As Operations Director at OceanWise, Ralph is responsible for overseeing all operational activities, ensuring that business objectives are met safely, efficiently, and effectively. His leadership helps drive the company’s continued success, maintaining the high standards of service and innovation that OceanWise is known for.
Based on Hayling Island with his wife and two sons, Ralph makes the most of his time outside work by spending time on the water or climbing whenever he can.
Katie Eades joined OceanWise in early 2018 and plays a key role in Marketing and Business Development, ensuring that OceanWise’s strategy, messaging, and customer journey align with the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence. She is passionate about keeping the customer at the forefront of development, working closely with teams to ensure that products and services meet real-world needs.
With a degree in Marketing and a diverse background spanning Marketing, Sales, and Key Account Management, Katie has experience across multiple industries, including Government, the Wine industry, and Bathrooms. Her broad skill set allows her to bridge the gap between technical expertise and customer engagement, ensuring that OceanWise continues to grow while delivering outstanding service.
A passionate traveler, Katie spent five years working and exploring across Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific, gaining a global perspective that informs her approach to business and relationship-building.
Outside of work, Katie is an outdoor enthusiast who shares a love for adventure with her two sons. She is a keen skier, outdoor swimmer, and walker, and enjoys making the most of her time with family and friends.
Sarah joined OceanWise in November 2023 as Monitoring Business Manager, bringing with her 17 years of experience as an Oceanographer at Fugro. With a strong background in marine engineering, data processing, and operational management, Sarah has led consultancy and metocean teams, ensuring the successful delivery of complex marine projects.
At OceanWise, Sarah is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of our Monitoring Business Stream. Her role spans project management, business development, site visits, and leading our growing monitoring team, ensuring that OceanWise continues to provide innovative and reliable environmental monitoring solutions.
Outside of work, Sarah is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys spending time gardening, exploring the countryside, and relaxing at the beach with her husband and young daughter.
Steve joined OceanWise in December 2018 bringing with them 7 years’ experience in web-based systems development. Of those 7 years they spent 4 years working on website maintenance and development and 3 years developing in-flight entertainment software for private aircrafts – after tackling the skies they decided to move their attention to the seas!
Steve is now a core part of the OceanWise technical team and is responsible for the development and maintenance of front facing websites and external projects as well as supporting and developing in-house tools.
Outside of work, Steve enjoys painting miniatures and spending time with their family and friends.
As Customer Services Manager at OceanWise, Janet plays a vital role in keeping the business ship-shape and ensuring that customer expectations are always met. With a strong background in customer service within the marine data industry, she is dedicated to delivering excellent support and fostering long-term relationships with clients.
Janet began her career in marine data in 2007 as a Customer Services Assistant at SeaZone Solutions Ltd, quickly rising to Customer Services Manager. She continued in this role after SeaZone was acquired by HR Wallingford Ltd, where she gained valuable experience working within a larger organisation. Now, having come full circle, Janet is delighted to be back with her former colleagues at OceanWise, bringing her wealth of knowledge and expertise to the team.
Outside of work, Janet enjoys long walks, camping holidays, and spending quality time with her family. As a proud mother to three grown-up daughters, she embraces every opportunity for adventure and togetherness.
